Cold Dog Soup are Andy (vocals and bass) and Ed Hughes (guitar) and Gillan Berry(keyboards). CDS formed as a 4 piece Glasgow based rock band in December 2002(with Barry Peffers on drums and Alan McAllister on Bass) although Andy and Ed had been using the name since 2000 as performing members of Glasgow Songwriters. Andy Hughes, a member of Glasgow Songwriters in the ‘90s, is a prolific songwriter of original, non-clichéd material. Over that time, Andy had 2 songs on compilation GS albums. He also had various gigs in and around Glasgow as a solo artist. Although well received, the acoustic sound was not doing the songs justice. Andy wanted a band, made up of the right people, to provide the fuller sound - and to make some real noise! Easier said than done! He encouraged his younger brother, Ed, to take up guitar and in no time he was joining Andy on stage adding a rockier raw edge to the sound. He also has a talent for coming up with new song tunes and a number have been given lyrics by Andy and are included in the band's repertoire. CDS band member's diverse influences include The Chilies, Sound Garden, Nirvana, ELO, Tom Petty and the Manics- among others. Check out their website, colddogsoup.co.uk, for band information. All the guys have their own page and contact details. There’s a lot to the site and it’s well worth a visit! The CDS sound is hard to pigeonhole. Best described as original rock, full of energy, melody and emotion. The songs have a wide range of themes, often hard hitting, with something to say to everyone. CDS have a great time on stage and the crowd want to hear more! We have now been joined by the Jazzberry on Synthesiser, with an even greater sound and punchy songs. Got to hear them to believe them, get along to a gig!! |
